The Reset Journal
Explore how science, the subconscious, and your breath can work together to help you think clearly and stay steady under pressure.
You’ve probably seen the Emotion Wheel before — that colourful circle used by psychologists to help people label how they feel.
It’s well-intentioned. After all, emotional awareness is important. But here’s the truth:
Labelling your emotions isn’t the same as resolving them.
And for high-performing, self-aware professionals — the kind of people who already know they’re anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck - continuing to dissect what they feel often keeps them locked in a loop.
From a neuroscience perspective, emotions are predictions, not fixed responses. Your brain uses prior experience to guess what’s happening and how you should feel. This is what’s known as the theory of constructed emotion, popularised by neuroscientist Lisa Feldman Barrett.
The more often you label an emotional state like “anxious” or “frustrated,” the more your brain reinforces it as a pattern. It becomes your go-to prediction. Your neural network gets stronger around the label, not the liberation.
It feels insightful to “know what you’re feeling.” But insight alone doesn’t create change.
The Problem With The Emotion Wheel
While the Emotion Wheel may help beginners identify emotions, for many, it becomes a subtle trap:
You become overly focused on naming your feelings…
You intellectualise your emotional world...
And you stay in your head, instead of shifting your system.
This is what I call the cognitive-emotive loop, and it’s one of the biggest reasons high performers stay stuck.
You don’t need another word for what you’re feeling. You need a new response — one that begins in the body, not the mind.
In my work, we use subconscious mindshifting, nervous system retraining, and hypnosis-based techniques to change the prediction, not just describe it.
This is where true transformation happens. When you rewire your response at the source, you no longer need to talk yourself out of overwhelm or perform emotional self-analysis. Your nervous system simply doesn’t go there.
This is exactly what we do inside The Stress Reset Method™, a neuroscience-based approach to recalibrating your stress response.
It’s not therapy. It’s not mindfulness. It’s not sitting in your emotions longer.
It’s training your brain and body to operate from clarity, not chaos.
You don’t get free by feeling more. You get free by rewiring what you feel in the first place.
If you’re ready to stop looping through “awareness” and actually retrain your stress response, I’d love to invite you to experience The Stress Reset Power Session.
This isn’t therapy. It’s not about digging through more emotions.
It’s a science-backed approach to rewiring what your brain predicts — so you can lead, perform, and live without feeling constantly hijacked by stress or overwhelm.
